Have you ever bought a nice lipstick, wore it for a day, and discovered (at the very end of the day while haven't checked any mirrors in the mean time) that the lipstick got all grainy and patchy on your lips? Ew! The secret of wearing your lipstick perfectly all day lies within the art of, yes... scrubbing.
Scrubbing, or exfoliating, refers to any method that removes dead skin from the surface, exposing healthier underlying skin. Sounds rather painful right? It works on most body parts, but the lips are usually forgotten.
Today we'll show you a recipe for making your very own (non-painful) lip scrub. Say goodbye to those dry lips and patchy lipstick and hello to boy-attractor #1, lovely soft and healthy lips.
What do you need?
- honey
- olive oil
- sugar
- cinnamon
- black pepper
- a small mixing bowl
- a small lockable jar
- a tablespoon
What do you need to do?

Start with mixing one tablespoon of honey with one tablespoon of olive oil.

Then add two tablespoons of sugar and mix until you get a smooth paste.
Now add 1/2 tablespoon of black pepper and 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon to the mixture, and you're all done!
By adding the black pepper and cinnamon your lips will slightly tingle during and after the scrubbing. This ensures a better blood flow in your lips which gives them that healthy pinkish glow. If you don't want this, you can leave both ingredients out.
How to use?
Massage your lips one minute with the scrub and let it soak for two minutes, then wash off the scrub and rub in your lips with honey or lip balm.
Tips!
For adding a pop of colour to the mixture without the pepper and cinnamon, just add a little bit of lipstick. In our scrub we used a pink/red lipstick.
Keep your lip scrub in the fridge for longer shelf life. Since all the ingredients are edible (and therefore spoilable) don't use the scrub longer than a month.
If you don't want to preserve your scrub, just put it on toast and eat it. :)
Happy DIY'ing!
